Never in my life would I imagine that my first trip out of the country would be to Zambia, Africa. I have always dreamed to visit there one day in the future, but not as a nursing student. When the opportunity became available I was on board from the beginning, but the only thing holding me back was the funding. I was not sure how I was going to afford to get there. After selling t-shirts, making christmas ornaments, and applying for scholarships, I was able to raise more than needed to be apart of this amazing trip.
As I sit here packing up my last few items I cannot help but to be in complete awe of this wonderful experience that I am about to have. I have only been on a plane once in my life and that was about 45 minutes to Disney World, so does it really even count? Now I will have total travel time close to 24 hours just for the trip there under my belt, crazy right?
I have heard nothing but good things about Zambia and their people. We will be providing medical care to those who visit our clinics we set up and we will also provide menstrual information to the young ladies and women of Zambia. These people do not have access to much health care if any at all, so these clinics are very crucial to their health and reaching as many people as possible is our goal all while spreading the gospel. Before we leave we have the privilege to take part in a real safari as well, not anything like you might see at the zoo or in Disney World.
I know God has something great in store for us while in this amazing country. We will open a whole new world of knowledge and culture like nothing we have ever experienced before. I cannot wait to tell more of my journey through the jungle and how many lives that will be impacted on the way. Stay tuned!
