Hi, I’m Nia and I am going to be studying abroad at the University of Roehampton in London, England. I am a sophmore at the University of Alabama, majoring in Anthropology!
It’s officially a week before I leave for England. I honestly can’t believe it. I’ve been looking forward to studying abroad in London since elementary school.
I would be lying to you if I said I did not watch endless YouTube videos about studying abroad over winter break. Because I did! Was it a waste of time? ABSOLUETLY NOT! These YouTube videos helped me tremendously even though it seemed like I was just sitting on my butt for countless hours.
Watching these videos sent multiple different emotions through me. I went from being excited to getting nervous to being eager to leave.
Not only did these videos prepare me for the highlights of studying abroad like traveling to other countries, meeting new people, and exploring the city, it also helped me know how to pack and with study tips.
If you don’t like watching YouTube videos like me, here are some tips that may help you:
- Some people say that you don’t get a lot of work when studying abroad, so make sure you plan out your study days
- Buy important things that will not be sold overseas
- Spend quality time with family and friends
- SAVE money so you don’t have to worry about extra expenses like travel fees (for weekend/spring break trips), food, etc.
Even though these tips may seem very basic, they are major tips that you should follow.
This isn’t my first rodeo going out of the country, so I have an idea of what it’s going to be like. However, I have never been out of the country for more than 3 weeks. I’m so excited to see all the famous landmarks, have tea with the Queen (an old pal lol*), and take in the European environment. This experience will help me become the person I am meant to be. I hope it will change me in the best ways possible and impact my life, so it’ll be one of the highlights of my life.
Studying Abroad in London is going to be a DREAM COME TRUE and I can’t wait to share what’s to come during my stay.
*I do not know the Queen personally; I wish I did lol
