We arrived in Vietnam around 6:30 am local time in Hanoi which is a 12 hour time difference from Tuscaloosa. To make sure we adjusted to the time change we stayed up during the day and explored Hanoi with Professor Wright. For dinner that night we went to a restaurant that served various traditional Vietnamese foods. I tried large intestine which was by far the nastiest thing I tried on this trip, but it is definitely a funny story to tell. We got to speak to students at HPT university in Hanoi which was super interesting and fun to get to talk to students our age also in college but in a different country with different cultures. We went to the Ho Chi Min complex and various temples before taking our bus to Halong Bay for an overnight boat cruise. The bay was beautiful and very fun to explore on kayaks. It was great to get to know everyone better on the cruise as we all got to hang out more. There was so much culture to take in and so many views to take in. Vietnam was a great kickoff to the trip, but as a picky eater it took a minute to adapt and some McDonalds runs were made. I am super glad I packed a voltage converter and a belt bag or crossbody type seemed like the perfect bag for walking around Hanoi and our excursions.
