Embarking on a journey to a foreign place is often filled with unexpected twists and turns. My adventure to Porto, Portugal, for the European Innovation Academy began with a delay and a minor hiccup. However, despite the initial setbacks, I found myself embracing the vibrant city and ended the day with a memorable experience.
As I eagerly boarded my first flight to Porto, little did I know that a delay would be the first challenge I encountered. With my initial flight delayed, I made it with 15 minutes to spare to my next flight going to Europe. Unfortunately, when I arrived in Porto, I learned that my bag had been mistakenly sent to Amsterdam. While it was disheartening not to have my belongings with me, I remained hopeful that I would be reunited with my bag soon.
Amidst the minor setback, I reminded myself that challenges are part of any travel experience. I immediately reported the issue to the airline and provided them with the necessary details to track and deliver my bag. Despite feeling exhausted from the long journey and the unexpected detour, I remained patient and hopeful that my bag would be returned to me promptly.
Determined to make the most of my first day in Porto, I decided to venture out and explore the city. The city’s energy and captivating architecture served as a welcome distraction from the temporary inconvenience. I went on a riverboat cruise on the Douro River, where I marveled at the stunning architecture. Then, as the sun began to set, I made my way to Jardim do Morro, a picturesque garden overlooking Porto. It was a serene experience, reminding me of the incredible privilege of being in Europe.
While my arrival in Porto had its share of unexpected events, I chose to embrace the challenges with patience and optimism. The temporary setback of a delayed bag was overshadowed by the riverboat cruise on the Douro River and the awe-inspiring moments spent at Jardim do Morro. It was a tiring day, but it served as a reminder of the resilience and adaptability required when traveling. As I looked forward to the upcoming weeks at the European Innovation Academy, I felt a renewed sense of excitement and anticipation. The adventures and opportunities that awaited me in Porto were just beginning, and I was determined to make the most of every moment.
