Amsterdam and Copenhagen will forever hold a special place in my heart! This trip has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life and I am thankful beyond words. <3
Throughout this trip, I have been answering “questions of the day” for one of my classes. As my program comes to an end, my answers have been very reflective of my experiences. Below are some examples of my writing.
What is one thing that is a part of society here (Amsterdam/Copenhagen) that you wish was a part of American society?
One thing I admire so much about European culture is the emphasis placed on leisure and work-life balance. Everything moves at a slower pace here and I love the positive energy it creates. You can walk around anywhere in Amsterdam or Copenhagen and even if it’s the middle of the afternoon on a weekday there are people sitting outside, at restaurants, taking walks, shopping, and enjoying themselves. I wish so badly that more of a work-life balance existed in America and that we utilized outdoor spaces more to commune with one another.
What is the thing you are most excited about experiencing or having access to when you return home?
I’m definitely the most excited to see my family, friends, and pets when I get back home, but outside of that I am really looking forward to eating my comfort foods, taking a good shower, and being back to my normal routine. Over the past month, I have adapted to and immersed myself into a totally new environment and living situation. I have had an amazing time on this trip, and I am super grateful for this experience because it has given me so much opportunity for growth. However, I can’t wait to get back to the environment where I’m most comfortable!
