T minus 60 minutes before I board the plane to head off to London. Definitely a lot of different emotions right now, feeling everything from extreme excitement to overwhelming anxiety. It is definitely tough to leave all of your friends and family behind after what feels like to be such a short start to summer, but I know there are great things in store for me in London. I’m very excited to meet new people from different countries and get the opportunity to explore the city all on my own. Being that this is my first time traveling to another country alone, I am definitely getting my fair share of pre-departure jitters. I knew that this would be a big concern of mine but I feel that having the responsibility of succeeding in my studies while I am in London will be helpful in keeping me distracted from the looming homesickness and unease that people may face when traveling abroad for long periods of time.
The first thing I plan to do upon landing after getting settled into where I am staying is going out and walking the city. I land just before noon so I should have plenty of time to explore the city and see some of the sights that London has to offer. I’m interested in seeing how heavy the London locals accents will be and if by the end of my trip I’ll eventually pick one up in the slightest. I’ve heard a lot of great things about the fish and chips so I’ll definitely have to make it a priority to try those early on in my stay!
