Hello! My name is Anna Hill, and this is my first blog post while traveling abroad in Madrid, Spain for UA in Spain. The faculty-led program is coming to an end, since it is a Summer 1 study abroad trip, and I am so sad to go home but ready to get back to family and friends as well.
Every Saturday since our arrival, the program included a trip/excursion to another Spanish town outside of Madrid. The first was Salamanca, the second was Segovia, and this past Saturday on the 22nd of June we visited Toledo. I was very excited for this excursion and looking forward to the beautiful buildings and cultures I would be able to come in contact with! While I am here, I am taking Spanish Culture and Literature, where we have been learning about some of Toledo’s history and famous literature from the town especially the story of Don Quixote. It took an hour bus ride to arrive, and we were immediately greeted with a beautiful view!
From there, we walked around the city which was very hilly and the weather was hot, but its always good to have a hat and extra sunscreen on hand! Since it was still pretty early the city wasn’t too crowded and we were given time to grab breakfast and look around the Plaza Mayor of Toledo.
After the plaza, we headed to the Cathedral of Toledo which was a beautiful gothic style church.
After a tour of the cathedral, we got some time to get some dinner and shop around the town where many of the shops had student discounts. The last visit of the day was a synagogue and then a walk down back to the bus before heading back to the dorms. Toledo has definitely been my favorite Saturday trip so far, and I’m so glad we got to visit!
