Sometimes I wonder why I like to travel. Airports are intense, car rides are long, and trains aren’t very far-reaching (at least in the US). I will say that this flight has not made me any more excited about travel. Five of the seventeen students on my trip missed flights due to delays, and many more of us had difficulties with some aspect of the flight, including me. So why do I enjoy traveling?

The food, the culture, and the people are just three reasons of many. When I landed in Casablanca, we went to our hotel’s restaurant, and the food was amazing! Every day (all three of them) that I have been here has introduced me to new foods and flavors, and I continue to be impressed. The culture is also quite different. Throughout the day, you can hear the prayer chimes alerting people to the time. People really want to help you with everything. Today, I was wandering around looking (and feeling) lost, and someone came up to me to try and help. Once he figured out that we didn’t have a language in common, he lead me to another person who could speak English!

Hopefully, my experiences will continue to be positive as I live in Morocco for the next month. So far, I find that this experience has been amazing and totally worth it!

PS: I wanted to share some of the pictures that I have taken while here. The first picture is of the Hassan II Mosque, which I can only describe as a feat of architecture. While its building process may be pretty dark, it is a point of pride for many Moroccans. The second picture is of the inside of the mosque, with the ceiling open, something that happens very rarely outside of Ramadan. The third picture is a salad that was prepared at the hotel (mentioned earlier).
