Returning from my study abroad trip in Rome, Italy, was a bittersweet experience. After months of immersing myself in the rich history, culture, and cuisine of Rome, it was time to come back home. The flight back was uneventful; a smooth journey filled with a mix of nostalgia for the memories I was leaving behind and excitement for the familiar comforts of home.

As soon as I landed, the first thing I saw was my mom and grandma waiting eagerly for me at the airport. Their smiles and warm hugs were the perfect welcome home. They were so excited to hear about my adventures and see how much I had grown from the experience.

We didn’t waste any time and headed straight to Applebee’s for a celebratory meal. It was such a contrast to the trattorias and cafes I had gotten used to in Rome, but there was something comforting about being back in a place that felt so familiar. The friendly staff, the cozy booths, and the menu filled with American classics made me feel truly at home.

As we sat there, I shared stories of my time in Rome – the beautiful sights like the Colosseum and the Vatican, the incredible food like pasta carbonara and gelato, and the wonderful friends I made along the way. My mom and grandma listened intently, asking questions and laughing at my anecdotes.

Eating at Applebee’s, surrounded by my family, I realized how much I had missed them and the simple joys of home. The flight back had been smooth, but it was this moment – sharing a meal with my loved ones – that made me feel truly back. It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable journey and a heartwarming beginning to my return home.
