Being my last weekend with UA in Oxford, we wanted to explore the United Kingdom one more time. A few of my friends who I made on this amazing study abroad experience and I decided to visit the famous white cliffs of Dover. We took the train from Oxford to London, with a quick stop at the Paddington store in Paddington Station, before taking the tube to London St. Pancras then another train down to Dover Priory. Arriving in the seaside town, the first thing that struck me was the seagulls that were flying about everywhere. Being from a seaside town myself, it did give me a nice sense of home to think about. We did some research ahead of time and found a nice place to grab some lunch, and they happened to be playing “Sweet Home Alabama” when we walked in, which was hilarious. After jamming out over some panini and burgers, we made the long walk to the actual cliffs. My first impression was being shocked at how high the cliffs were and how white the chalk made the cliffs appear. We trekked the side near the edge of the cliff, looking at the steep drop below. While it wasn’t a perfect day for a view, you could still barely make out the coast of France across the English Channel. We sat down in the grass and soaked in the sun while listening to the faint echoes of the waves down below. We eventually made our journey back, of course with a stop for ice cream on the way, and took the train back to Oxford.
