When I first arrived in Cannes for the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, the air was electric with excitement for the week ahead. As a Communication Studies major, I was thrilled by the opportunity to network and learn from the best in the industry. I was not here as just a spectator, but a student eager to learn, coveted festival pass in hand. The endless possibilities stood right in front of me, along a rolled out red carpet.

The first couple of days were a whirlwind of sessions, workshops, and award shows. I continuously found myself sitting in the same room as industry giants, listening as they spoke of the power in media and storytelling. I jotted down notes everywhere I went, both for wisdom and to contribute field notes to my Ethnographic Storytelling class assignments through UA. Engaging with these leaders and attending sessions and awards shows broadened my professional outlook and provided me with new perspectives relevant to my career goals in Communication Studies while being on the pre-law track.

Networking tents and events were so surreal. Amidst the glamour, I met so many contacts who shared insights about the work they do within their companies, some even offering internships in wild places like Dubai. A goal I have for myself is to use interpersonal skills and newfound global networking and connections, opening me up to more career opportunities.

By the end of the trip, I had a heart full of inspiration. The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity was not just an event; it was a transformative experience that deepened my understanding of the global nature of the creative industry. Meeting professionals from around the world and seeing their work broadened my understanding of how cultural nuances influence creative expression and marketing. As I head back to UA, I am excited to apply what I’ve learned and continue growing from this incredible opportunity.

Cannes you believe it? Yes, I certainly can!
