Coming home

After returning home I had to adjust to my old environment. One of the biggest changes was that I had to drive everywhere instead of taking public transportation or having the option to walk. I recommend giving yourself some time to adjust to your old routine. Also, you will need time to adjust to a new sleep schedule depending on the time zone you studied in.

If you want to visit other places, plan your return flights well. I was able to visit with family in New York during a layover at JFK airport. Some students in my group visited Scotland and England on their return trip. Looking back, there are a few things I would do differently. I would recommend taking as many pictures as possible. I did not take any pictures on some excursions because I was more focused on immersing myself in the experiences. For example, I kept my phone in my pocket the entire time at one excursion. Family members asked for pictures of food that I ate and even streets in the areas I visited. Remember, some people will never have the opportunity to visit the places where you study so a few photos will be appreciated by your friends and family. Luckily, my faculty members took some group photos and posted them for all students. If you are into journaling that is something I would recommend as well to record memories. Looking back these are some things I would have done differently on my study abroad trip.
