Hi everyone! It’s Madison Carnahan and I got to study abroad this summer with the department of Art & Art History in Italy. I wanted to come on here and give my thoughts and reflections after being abroad and how it has changed me for the better.
For starters, I went into this trip not knowing anyone; I only knew where I was going and the itinerary for the two weeks. I had to meet the group at the airport and everyone was so inviting. After a short couple days, I had successfully formed a friend group that still texts every day.
I got to learn a lot about myself on this trip, too. I had never traveled alone before this experience, so navigating foreign airports and sites was quite a feat. This made me realize that I am more than okay being by myself and just experiencing life.
I will never forget this trip. I have dreamed about going to Italy since I was in elementary school; I could not wait until I had the chance to finally see it for myself. I am beyond thankful that I had this opportunity and I am counting down the days until I can go back.
Studying in Italy enriched my life in unexpected ways. Immersing myself in its vibrant culture and history deepened my understanding of the world and enhanced my adaptability and confidence; the experience deepened my appreciation for art and tradition.
I hope all of you get to share a similar, wonderful experience like I did. Happy travels 🙂
