Fútbol has become my life as of late. As a Bama student, it is extremely easy for me to get into the team spirit. And man has then been the case here in Spain lately. If you do not already know the European Cup is currently all anyone talks about here. If you’re thinking that you would get bored of this, just think of it as Alabama football season.
So far, myself and the other students on my study abroad have watched the last 3 games that Spain has played in the Euro Cup. As of right now, Spain has moved on to the finals and will be playing England on Sunday July 14, 2024. We all have our Spain National Jerseys and will be wearing them to the local big screen that the Community of Madrid will be providing. For the semifinals against France, we went to one of the big screens and it was one of the best watch parties I have ever been too. It made me feel like I was back in Tuscaloosa on Game Day. If it weren’t for our professor here at the University of Nebrija, we would have never known about the watch party. Thanks to her we had such a good time.
If Alabama football has taught me anything, it is to have team spirit. So, in preparation of the finals, we have purchased face paint for us to all wear, and show our Spain pride. I used to think about how long it would be until Alabama football, but Spain doing so well in the Euro Cup has been the excitement I have been needing from Alabama “Fútbol”.
UPDATE: Spain did win the EuroCup, 2-1. Vamos España!
