The day is finally here that I’m leaving and I still can’t believe it! I have been planning for this trip for about a year now so to see it finally happening is very surreal. I am going on a faculty-led trip in Greece for 3 weeks where we will start in Athens and travel to 7 other cities throughout the country.
I’ve always found Greece interesting and beautiful, but I truly didn’t think I’d ever get the opportunity to travel there. My biggest reservation was the finances, but after looking into it I realized if I could get some scholarships and financial aid, I had enough saved up to go. I was still hesitant to study abroad because although it seemed like so much fun, it was intimidating and out of my comfort zone. The more I thought about it, I realized I may never get this kind of opportunity again and I wanted to experience this. Alabama’s study abroad program is so incredible with a plethora of options and ability to choose what works best for you.
The preparation to go to another country is tedious and can be overwhelming, but there are so many resources out there to help. One thing that I never thought about is the difference in outlet plugs and electricity. Since technology is so crucial to our every day lives, this was an important step to cover, but the adapters I needed were easy to find.
I’m definitely excited for the experience and can’t wait to see what it holds, but I’m also nervous for the unknown and hope everything goes smoothly. I’ve been reminding myself that people travel abroad all of the time and almost any issue I could have, someone else has dealt with it before and it can be worked out. Another thing I’ve been thinking is to not panic if things don’t go exactly as planned because there is bound to be a bump in the road, but it will all be okay.
