Ever since I have started school here in Rome, it’s been so difficult to do a school day and try to see all the sights. My friends and I have come up with a good middle ground of classes and studying in the morning and then seeing some sights in the afternoon. This week we finally went and saw one of the seven wonders of the world, the Colosseum! It was huge in person and it was so interesting to learn about the history. In the exposed section which used to be under ground, you can see where they used to keep the prisoners and lions that would fight. The ground above them has since collapsed but it was made of wood. There were also multiple sections of seats like how we have at modern stadiums. Except these seats were sectioned by race and gender, not how much you could pay for them. The stone of the colosseum also has chunks taken out of it because in Rome they repurpose their stone to use in houses. They have obviously now stopped people from taking stone but they used to recycle it. Being in Rome has been so fun especially being able to see both sides of life: the colosseum/school and fun dinners with friends. I have trips coming up too that I am so excited about and cannot wait to share! I am already half way through my time here in Rome and I am going to be so sad to leave, but I am already so thankful for the memories I have made and all that I have gotten to see.
