So, I have successfully checked a bag and made it through security for my first flight. The lovely news I received while in line for my flight was that we have a two hour delay. I am now sitting at my gate trying not to think about how much shorter my layover in Atlanta will be and doing something I never would have imagined…. praying for a delay in Atlanta for my flight to London.
I know some people reading this may be pros at the airport, but for those that aren’t, here is what I learned going through security. You may not have to take your laptop or quart sized bag of liquids out of your personal item. Wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off. Have an ID handy to give them. Be prepared to haul your carry on and personal item around and make sure that you don’t have too much luggage with you.
One thing I will say is that taking this first step towards actually going abroad has surprisingly eased a lot of my nerves about going. Things are going to happen that are out of your control. I cannot control when my plane leaves or how much time I have to get from a domestic gate to an international one, but I can control my attitude through it. By tomorrow I will be in another country ready to make so many memories and experience so many things – that is what I am focusing on while I wait for my flight to board.
