During my last week in Rome it felt like my time was flying by. I was working on my final assignments and projects and constantly staying up late. During my final bit of time abroad I found myself constantly having a self monologue thinking “I just got here yesterday and the full month is almost over!”
I explored the city and found good food and great people. The atmosphere in Rome is amazing there is always an event to attend, friends to hang out with and food to enjoy. If you are from a big city Rome is the place to be. I did not know how much would be in store for me while I was there.
It seemed like everyday I found something new in town like a local cafe, a piece of art or architecture , or even learned a new tradition; and everyday I had become just a little bit better at Italian. If you are shy to practice it, Italian, don’t be. I found myself constantly struggling but even when I struggled I was more or less met with kindness and understanding.
I will admit from what I read online about how people who have darker skin are treated I was on edge. Admittedly there were sometimes where I got the occasional glance longer than usual but that was to be expected, yet none the less I was treated fairly and honestly. With more diversity in culture than I could have imagined, food that never made me feel sick, a lower cost of living and high quality of life I couldn’t recommend Italy enough.
