To say this past week was hectic would be an understatement. Preparing for my trip was the least of my worries amid finals and other end of the year responsibilities. The quick turn around from spring semester to May interim leaves barely any time to catch your breath. However, the anticipation and excitement for my month in Germany with the Honors College has kept me moving along so far.

I am proud to say I packed an entire month’s worth of luggage into one carry-on suitcase and a backpack. I chose to pack lightly because we will be changing locations frequently, taking trains and buses to cities all around Germany. Navigating public transportation in a foreign country with bulky luggage was not something I wanted to worry about. My biggest concern while packing was ensuring that I had the correct outlet adapter. I researched well rated adapters and purchased one online. To make things less complicated I decided not to bring along items, such as a hair-dryer, that would require voltage conversions.

While I was preparing to leave I had to ensure that my credit cards, cell phone, and computer would work properly in Germany. I bought a plan through my cell phone carrier that gave me a certain amount of minutes and texts for the month but a very limited amount of data. Fingers crossed there is free Wi-Fi where we are staying. I also had to alert my bank and credit card company of my travels to make sure I could make purchases during my trip.

Although I did not get to plan ahead of time as much as I would have liked, I was able to make sure the basics were completed. I am looking forward to to arriving in Frankfurt in less than 12 hours!
