UA in India: Culture, Identity, and Mental Illness
This course is designed to examine cross-cultural perspectives on mental health and mental illness in Indian context. Conducting the course in India will provide firsthand experience in learning about attitudes towards mental health and mental illness and also about psychiatric practices in that country. The purpose of this course is to examine the factors that are specific to Indian culture and how it can influence the development of self, identity, and the perceptions about psychopathology. Specifically, the course will explore the attitude towards mental health and mental illness, and the specific psychiatric practices adopted in countries like India.
